Party games

Made for a group sitting together, each on their own phone, talking out loud.

Odd One OutParty · 3–8

Odd One Out

3 to 8 players · party game

Everyone gets the same secret word except one player, the odd one out, who sees only the category. Hold your card to see your word, and don't let anyone peek.

Go round the group, each saying one word about it out loud, while the odd one out tries to blend in. Then everyone votes on their own phone for who they think it is. Catch them and they get one guess at the word. If the vote misses, ends in a tie, or they guess the word, they win.

It's the kind of word game often called an imposter game. There are 30 categories of 10 words, and each phone shows the word in its own language, so phones set to English and Spanish can play the same round.

Play with friends (GoFi Bot can't play it).

Quiz10 questions · 1–8

Quiz

1 to 8 players · 10 questions

Ten questions, each with four answers and 15 seconds on the clock. Everyone answers on their own phone at the same time, and a right answer scores up to 1,000 points: the faster you are, the more you get. After each question you see the answer and the scores.

There are 256 questions in eight topics (space, animals, the human body, geography, sport, food, science and art), in all five of the app's languages. Your phone keeps your best score.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo.

Draw and GuessParty · 2–8

Draw and Guess

2 to 8 players · party game

On your turn, pick one of three words and draw it in 75 seconds. Everyone else watches the drawing appear on their own phone and types guesses, as many as they like. Guess sooner for more points; the drawer scores for every right guess.

Halfway through you see how many letters the word has, and near the end its first letter. Everyone draws once, or twice in a small group. There are more than 300 words, and a right guess counts in any of the app's languages.

Play with friends (GoFi Bot can't draw).

Puzzle race

Everyone plays at once on their own board.

Gumblox2-min race · 1–8

Gumblox

1 to 8 players · two-minute race

Drag a piece from the tray onto the board. Fill a whole row or column and it pops for points; pop several at once, or keep popping move after move, for a combo. Everyone in the game gets the same pieces, and if your board fills up you get a fresh one. The highest score after two minutes wins.

Today's Gumblox, on the home screen, gives everyone the same pieces that day, so friends can compare scores when they meet. It keeps your best for the day and counts the days in a row you've played.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo, plus Today's Gumblox.

Aim and shoot

Drag, swipe and aim. Players take turns, and the others watch each shot.

Pool8-ball · 2 players

Pool

2 players · 8-ball

Drag backwards anywhere on the table, like pulling a slingshot, then let go to shoot the white ball. A longer drag is a harder shot. The first ball you sink makes you solids or stripes, and sinking one of yours gives you another shot. Sink all of yours, then the black 8, to win. Sink the 8 early and you lose.

Play with a friend or against GoFi Bot.

Mini Golf6 holes · 1–8

Mini Golf

1 to 8 players · 6 holes

Six holes: Warm Up, Dogleg, Bumpers, The Hill, Sand Trap and Zig Zag. Drag back like a slingshot and let go to hit the ball; a longer drag hits harder. After 8 hits on a hole you move on. The lowest total wins, and your personal best is your fewest strokes.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo.

Bowling10 frames · 1–8

Bowling

1 to 8 players · 10 frames

Slide your finger sideways on the lane to line up the ball, then swipe up the lane to bowl. A longer swipe rolls faster, and the Spin slider curves the ball left or right. Two rolls a frame to knock down all ten pins; the highest score after ten frames wins.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo.

Darts301 · 1–8

Darts

1 to 8 players · 301

Hold your finger on the board: the crosshair sits just above it and wobbles a little. Lift your finger to throw. You get three darts a turn, starting from 301 and counting down. The thin outer ring scores double and the thin inner ring triple. Land on exactly zero to win; go below zero and that turn doesn't count.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo.

Live games

Played in real time between two phones.

Air Hockey LIVE2 players

Air Hockey

2 players · live

Drag your paddle around your half of the table and knock the puck into the goal at the far end. The first to 7 goals wins.

It's played live, phone to phone: the first player's phone runs the table and the other sends its paddle. It works over Bluetooth, and it's quicker when both phones are on the same Wi-Fi or a hotspot, which doesn't need internet.

Play with a friend or against GoFi Bot.

Ping Pong LIVE2 players

Ping Pong

2 players · live

Slide your finger left and right to move your paddle. Hit the ball with the edge of the paddle to send it off at an angle. The first to 11 points wins. Like air hockey, it's played live between the two phones, and quickest over shared Wi-Fi or a hotspot.

Board and card games

Take turns. The game stays in sync on every phone, and if someone drops out of range it waits for them or carries on, depending on whose turn it is.

Chess2 players

Chess

2 players

Tap a piece, then one of the marked squares. White moves first. Every rule is in: castling, en passant, promotion, check and checkmate, and draws by stalemate, threefold repetition, the 50-move rule and insufficient material.

Play with a friend or against GoFi Bot.

Battleship2 players

Battleship

2 players

Your five ships are placed for you; tap Shuffle until you like the layout, then Ready. Take turns firing at the other fleet, and a hit gives you another shot. Sink every ship to win. When the game ends, both fleets are checked against what was locked in at the start, so nobody can move a ship mid-game.

Connect Four2 players

Connect Four

2 players

Tap a column to drop your disc into it. Take turns, one disc each, and line up four of yours across, up and down, or diagonally to win.

Play with a friend or against GoFi Bot.

Dots and Boxes2–4 players

Dots and Boxes

2 to 4 players · 25 boxes

Tap between two dots to draw a line. Take turns, one line each. Draw the last side of a box and it's yours, and you go again. When every line is drawn, whoever has the most boxes wins.

Play with friends or against GoFi Bot.

MemoryPairs · 1–8

Memory

1 to 8 players · 12 pairs

Turn over a card, then another. If they match, you keep them and go again. If they don't, they turn back over and it's the next player's go. Whoever finds the most pairs wins; on your own, it counts how many turns you take to find all 12.

Play with friends, against GoFi Bot, or solo.

Reversi2 players

Reversi

2 players

Tap a glowing square to put down a disc. It has to trap a line of the other colour between it and one of yours, and every trapped disc flips to your colour. If you can't move, your turn is skipped. When neither of you can move, whoever has the most discs wins.

Play with a friend or against GoFi Bot.

How a game starts

In a room, tap the controller button and pick a game. That opens a table with seats, pinned under the room's name, and anyone who wants to play taps Join; nobody is put in a game without saying yes. A two-player game starts as soon as the second person sits down, and bigger games start when the person who opened the table taps Start. You can keep chatting from inside the game, and other people in the room can watch.

The room keeps score: wins for each person, by game, and winning runs. An unfinished game of Pool, Mini Golf, Bowling, Darts, Chess, Battleship, Connect Four, Dots and Boxes, Memory or Reversi, played with someone else, is still there the next time the room opens.

On your own, the practice room has GoFi Bot, who chats back and plays 14 of the games, and six games have Play solo. Your phone keeps your personal best at Gumblox, Mini Golf, Bowling, Darts and Quiz, from any game you finish, alone or with others.
